Why the weekend?

Obviously, because we love modern jazz. But also because ...

  • We're recreating Canberra festivals of old
  • We're promoting modern jazz and local performers
  • We're sponsoring evolving music and new musicians
  • We're helping to develop the local jazz community

  • And we're sponsoring a good cause that Australians will understand and easily commit to: providing wells for poor villages in the parched land of Ethiopia.
  • Why "Uncovered"?

Uncovered has a few meanings for us. Uncovered as in new music; knowing and respecting the traditions, but not just endlessly replaying the standards. Uncovered as in a community of friends to discover and passions and ideas to share. Uncovered stretched to represent the good works we can do together by releasing water in parched lands by sponsoring the charity, Wellwishers.

Wellwishers is a charity that digs wells in Ethiopia. Our target is to achieve a profit of $A7,000 from the first Jazz Uncovered weekend. This will pay for one well to be dug in a village in Ethiopia. The Jazz Community in Canberra could claim this as its own.

    Our endorsement

We are proud to announce that Frank Gambale, famed fusion guitarist and proponent of sweep technique, gives his endorsement and support to our Jazz Uncovered weekend. Thanks, Frank. He's now long lost to Canberra, but he's our greatest jazz export.

    Our Committee

We have a committee of four to organise the weekend, and we'll be drawing on musicians and other supporters to help out closer to the day. Here's our Committee.
